Mercamadrid is increasing its physical floor space by more than 25% (453,000 square meters) with an investment of over 300 million euros and the creation of more than 1,400 new jobs.
Quality and innovation are the prime objectives, not only in the design of future infrastructures and facilities, but also in the development of new activities and services offered to the operators who carry out their activities in the food sector.
Surface Expansion
The new global surface of 452,824 m², includes 194,436 m² of which is assigned to an urban park, 61,420 m² to specialised public services, 57,219 m² to the service sector, 118,639 m² to infrastructures and basic equipment and 32,179 m² to a Logistics Centre.
Green area Expansion
Mercamadrid plans to put by 194,436 m² for the construction of an urban park for Madrid citizens. This project will enable the creation of a green corridor linking the Parque del Manzanares to the Parque Forestal de Entrevías.
Product Expansion
With the inclusion of four new markets (dairy produce, wines & liquors, flowers, plants and oil) Mercamadrid will become the most important distributor to the food chain in Spain and the main food platform in Europe.
Service Expansion
The inclusion of other vital services such as Post offices, travel agencies, customs support, laboratories, transport agencies, import/export companies, restaurants, shops, consultancy firms, medical centres, and banks will provide a valuable support to the many other Mercamadrid companies and users.
Logistical Service Expansion
The expansion of logistical services and complementary distribution activities (central purchasing, storage, processing, packing, refrigerating and other activities) will mean an important saving of time within the distribution chain, contributing to profitability and a higher dynamism and efficiency in the business activities of all our customers and users.
Infrastructure Expansion
Our primary objective is to ensure that Mercamadrid sets the standard of quality and innovation placing it at the top of the European Food Market.
The enlargement of our infrastructures such as access roads, parking, road ways, sanitary network, lighting, and loading bays will be carried out taking into account the most strict security and quality controls..
Expansion in every direction
This expansion project demonstrates an important commitment to the community of Madrid. It means an investment of 300 million euros, the creation of 1,400 new jobs and the incorporation of more than 200 companies.
194,436 m² of land is included within the project and will be turned into a fine woodland demonstrating our commitment to a sustainable environment in the City of Madrid.
